05/2020
It will come as no surprise that due to the Covid pandemic our plans for the year have come rather unstuck. Cormac are not presently able to carry out the grass cutting at St Paternus, so we are doing what we can under the current restrictions.
We are obviously limited in what we can do in terms of equipment and volunteers, but the summer meadow has had a haircut, which should give later-flowering species a good start. The next cut is due for the spring meadows in June, but whether it goes ahead is obviously dependent on the lockdown situation.
We have managed to maintain the cut footpaths through the churchyard, so if you are looking for somewhere peaceful to take your daily exercise they make for a lovely stroll. At the time of writing the spring flowers are going over and the summer plants just emerging, but there’s plenty to spot – the nesting boxes, bug house, birds, butterflies and slow-worms. The bluebells are still out and looking amazing.
Finally, a plea to all dog walkers to please pick up after their dogs. Please respect that the churchyard is consecrated ground, and our volunteers, including young children, have to deal with the aftermath.
